You have probably heard of brain food before, but chances are that you didn’t really know what it means. Brain food refers to food, specifically nutrients in food, that help produce healthy brain function. Some foods can have a very good effect on your brain and so it is important that you try to fit them into your daily diet. East brain foods and you will think quicker, your creativity will peak, you will have energy and you will feel great.

The first major food for the brain is protein. Protein is a brain food because it helps build tissue, muscles, nerves and organs, like the heart. Proteins are part of what makes up neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are what send signals in your brain and help you to function. You are probably familiar with protein because it is found in meats, chicken, fish, some dairy products and nuts. It is ideal to try to eat some protein at every meal. Another important brain food is carbohydrates.

Carbohydrates are a brain food because they help serotonin convert in the brain. Serotonin helps to produce calm feelings and helps you to relax. They are vital to helping your brain work. They help to make your thoughts and brains function clearer. Your overall mental performance is improved through eating carbohydrates. Some carbohydrates have a longer lasting effect than others. Carbohydrates like white flour and potatoes tend to cause a spike in energy to the brain. Other carbohydrates like brown rice and vegetables cause a gradually flow in energy.

It is preferable that you eat carbohydrates like brown rice and vegetables verses other carbohydrates. You will get the energy from them over a longer period of time verses just short bursts of energy. Fat is an important brain food you may not have even considered. You might think that fat in your diet is a bad thing, but that is not completely true. Fat is essential to your brain since 60% of it is fat. Your brain cells are covered with a myelin ulsions which are 75% fat. These covers help transmit information within your brain.

Fat itself also works as a transmitter. It can help to regulate mood, circulation, memory, mood and the immune system. Specific fats, Omega 3 fatty acids, are the best for brain function. Omega 3 fatty acids are found in fish and some other foods, such as flaxseeds, walnuts, cooked soybeans, and raw Tofu. When your body does not get enough Omega 3 fatty acids then you can have problems with depression, memory trouble and difficulties learning. Lastly there are vitamins and minerals that serve as important food for the brain. There are a range of vitamins and minerals that your brain needs for function and growth. Some of those include Vitamins A, C and E. Vitamins have antioxidant powers that can help assist with memory. Minerals, like Magnesium and manganese, help your brain function and perform. Others like sodium and potassium help your brain during the thinking process and enable messages to be transmitting in your brain.

As you can see what you eat really does matter. Putting good foods into your body will go a long ways towards helping your brain function correctly and efficiently. When you plan your next meal you should consider these brain foods and make sure you include them in what you eat every day.
