The kids did an outstanding job with the variety of ideas for the business! They were able to branch
into ideas from many different perspectives inspiring us to take a new look at some aspects of the
business. We also appreciated the range of ideas from a financial standpoint. There were some that
wouldn't take much investment and others that would involve commitment. Thank you for the new and
fresh insight.

I have to recommend this workshop to any and all who can attend! We were greatly Blessed by
being a part of the group early this year. Sadly, I am working full time now though and we are down
to one car, so it is impossible for us to continue. I am telling all who can make it to do so. This is an
awesome group of people with a great amount of knowledge! I think I may have had more fun than
my son did! You will never regret making the effort to be involved in at least one project with these
wonderful people. You will have wonderful memories and I met some really nice people that I hope
to keep as friends in the future.

This letter is in appreciation of the services provided by the Young Bright
Minds & Inventors Academy in support of the Humane Society of Delaware
County.
During the week of July 14th, 2008, students with Bright Minds Academy
focused on three areas of growth to serve the animals of Delaware County;
marketing, community partnerships, and adoption events. With input from
the humane society, Rita Selle-Grider guided the students in developing
over 150 ideas supporting these three areas of concentration.
The ideas developed by the students proved to be insightful, clearly presented,
and beneficial to our organization. Thanks to the unique perspective young
thinkers in our community can provide, the suggestions comprised may open
new and creative ideas.
Within the first 30 days of receiving feedback from Bright Minds Academy, the
Humane Society of Delaware County was able to implement over a dozen ideas
to help advance our mission. As a non-profit organization with close ties to the
community, we look forward to continuing to implement ideas thanks to the
dedication and generosity of Young Bright Minds & Inventors Academy.
Sincerely,

I like making life easier for the average person with my inventions.
This camp has helped me with my inventing skills, for which I am very
thankful.
I also loved playing capture the flag during break. I enjoyed the whole
week of camp!
Kyle L., 6th Grade
I liked working on my invention idea. I am scared of the dark and I found
a solution with my mom. I came up with a glow in the dark light. It is really
cool. It was fun to work with other people. I liked the crafts, especially the
ones with the shells. I liked brainstorming fun things. And I liked the snacks
and drinks.
Kelsey P.,
My favorite thing of the invention camp was making my dog collar, which is
called “Pablo’s Cozy Soft Dog Collar.” I liked especially doing the drawings.
My second favorite thing was doing crafts. I liked decorating my notebook
and working in it. I liked being in camp because it was fun.
Pablo M., 3rd Grade
We like to invent things because it makes us feel good about things.
We like to help the community of the U.S.A. We liked the craft time,
because we love to create new things. Also, playing ball tag during
break time was very fun. Invention Camp was fun because we just
love to invent.
Ryan & Kyle C., 5th & 2nd Grade
liked to make the inventions here. I worked on a "Cat Palace for Food &
Fun." I liked the sports, they were really fun. And it was just fun to get out
and play.
Andrew H., 4th Grade
I LOVE the invention Camp. It's fun, educational, and you get exercised in
mind and through sports. Since my mom is Mrs. Rita Selle-Grider I get to
come all the time. I got to do one of my favorite things, inventing things for
animals, horses in particular. I invented a very light saddle pad. In the other
camp I teamed up with another girl and two boys and created a disaster kit
for pets. I sure hope it will help some day by saving many animals! We
learned a lot on the way, subject-wise as well as while working together as
a team. We had a lot of fun, too! Plus we got to play awesome games
& cool crafts.
Clara S., 8th Grade
I enjoyed working with very inquisitive children. The Kids Invention Summer
Camp gave me the opportunity to help harness the children’s imagination.
All the children who went to camp came out with great results. Going to camp
was very profitable for all who participated!
Ali F., 11th Grade |
I like invention camp because creativity was inspired. I got to do
things that spoke to my heart and create things that were fun to
use. The long hours in the car were worth making new friends
and inventing something that other people could use. My passion
used to be cats, but now I’m enjoying inventing! Thank you for
sharing your life and passion with so many of us!
I loved playing games at the stables, meeting new friends, and
brainstorming. I enjoyed hearing other people’s ideas and hearing
their input on mine. Thank you for providing such a great
opportunity for my family and me.
Paige S., 7th Grade
I enjoyed making new friends and playing cops and robbers. I had
fun coming up with ideas for the Humane Society and inventing cool
stuff!
Davey S., 8th Grade
I liked brainstorming and coming up with ideas. I liked meeting new
friends and being creative with them. It is a great opportunity for all
kids to be able to be involved and learn how to turn their ideas into
actual inventions to help others.
Dakota B., 5th Grade |
The things I liked most about camp:
- It was inspiring to see Ms. Vawter and her successful invention.
- It was interesting to learn about the connecting left and right
brain exercises.
- I learned fantastic new brainstorming techniques we can carry
through to school.
- It was great to see the kids stretch their imaginations to be
creative.
Peggy Shane, Counselor at the July camp |
Liked: Making new friends, inventing stuff and playing games.
Disliked: The camp being so short.
Noah W., 6th Grade
I like camp because I like to invent stuff. New friends,
Playing cops and robbers, learning over the summer,
this is fun.
Kaelan C., 4th Grade
Some of the signs are funny. The teachers are nice. I like
the games we play. I have lots of fun with the people there.
And I like to brainstorm!
Tyler P., 6th Grade
I liked when we brainstormed individually for others.
I disliked nothing. Another thing I like is when we go
to the stables.
Grayson D., 6th Grade |
Other people should join because you can make friends, have fun, and
win money. If you like science and are an inventor, you would definitely
like to come.
Casey S., age 9
- Invention Workshop -
You can use brainstorming in school work, not just here. The figure eight
helps me do other sports when I am too agitated. It makes you more
creative & open minded. Whenever you find or hear about a problem you
want to figure out a way to help.
Dounia O., age 10
Since my mom is Mrs. Selle-Grider, I go to all the workshops.
I have ADD.Mom teaches us how to focus and to stay concentrated. I don't have a
hard time concentrating anymore. She also teaches brainstorming and
mastermind working. I LOVE it, and I know others love it, too.

I like the Invention Workshop because it is fun to invent new ideas. It is
even more fun because you get to work with friends. The food is awesome!
Sometimes you can win prizes for your invention. The writing warm-ups are
fun and cool. The teacher and the students are nice and funny. You get
to practice making new things. People will really like it because it is fun and
exciting and you learn so many new things.
Abena B., age 11
Some reasons I like the Invention Workshop: It's a
* fun way to make new friends
* great way to learn about inventing, improving ideas & inventors
* an AWESOME way to see what you can do
* great practice for having fun and using your mind & creativity!
* good snacks!
The Invention Workshop is very fun! It's not only a way to be yourself,
express your ideas without getting laughed at, but you can also enter
contests! GO INVENTION WORKSHOP!!
Tana S., age 11
I think this workshop is great. It's fun, it teaches, and you get to meet
amazing people. Sometimes you even get to make money and travel,
but most importantly, you get to help others.
Naomi L., age 11
Do you like to invent? If you do, this is the perfect group to join. This group
gives great education being an inventor. It gives you a chance to really excel
in your quest to become a great inventor, maybe even become famous, so
join our Invention Workshops.
Kofi B., age 13
I first came to the Invention Workshop because my parents wanted me to.
It was a good learning experience, I learned about teamwork. I would re-
commend it to my friend.

My experience with the Young Bright Minds and Inventors Academy
was very rewarding. I was encouraged by the thoughtful discussion
and insight the children exhibited as we discussed practical
problems within policing. I thought the staff did an outstanding job
keeping the participants on task and facilitated a meaningful
dialogue regarding several specific policing issues. I received a
summary of the discussion with several practical considerations
that I intend to share with my staff. In police work we often see the
discouraging aspects of our community, but I must confess my brief
time with these young people reminded me that there are many
prospective young leaders and thinkers locally that excite me about
our future. I would recommend any business sharing at least some
time with these young people. The experience is guaranteed to
benefit both the business and the students.

Dear Rita,
We want to take this opportunity to thank you for initiating and
promoting your Young Bright Minds & Inventors Academy. It
has been a continued source of inspiration for our children,
who are always looking forward to their next class. The
brainstorming and problem-solving techniques they have
learned in your class have helped them in many ways with
their daily challenges. Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Crichton and Rachida Ogle

Rita,
My daughter had never participated in an invention/creative thinking workshop before. She thoroughly
enjoyed the process and benefited from the high energy and enthusiasm of the setting and the instructor.
The teamwork and group dynamics were also a source of valuable learning for her.

We have been asked to write a testimonial about the start-up
business services provided by Rita Selle-Grider, and we are
happy to do so. We had as desire to start a home schooling
children's choir for the residents of Delaware, Ohio and
surrounding areas, but we lacked the know-how to get it off
the ground. Thanks to the wonderful and organized brain-
storming techniques provided by Rita, we became a full-
fledged choir with 70 members within three months. We
found Rita's ability to listen and record our ideas very helpful.
We give Rita Selle-Grider our highest recommendation for her
services. Please feel free to contact us any time for further
details of our wonderful experience with Rita.
Sincerely,
Dr. Anthony Fesmire

I have 2 children involved in the "Young Bright Minds and Inventors Academy." I have seen first hand how
their imagination has been sparked by the wonderful ideas and contests that the children have entered.
More than that, they have made new friends and learned how to work as a group. My children looked
forward to every Friday afternoon when it was time for class. This is something we will do every year. We
will also come back because of the teacher, Rita Selle. It is obvious how much work and effort she puts
into the classes. And that she genuinely cares that the children are learning and stretching their imagi-
nation and creativity.

Dear Rita:
I want to thank you for the excellent workshop opportunity you provided for my daughter, Audrey - the
OHVA Invention Workshop. We felt it was well worth the 45 minute travel (one way!) to participate in this
6 week workshop - and most all trips home were filled with talk of inventions.
Our family prizes creative thinking. Waste Alternatives, Inc. specializes in creative solutions for waste
minimization. Our industrial recycling opportunities have lead us to a 200,000 sq. ft. processing
warehouse, including an agricultural film wash line. Audrey's Dad, our recycling specialist, specializes
in difficult to recycle plastic materials and thrives on solving the 'unsolvable' recycling problems. Your
workshop centered on the creative thinking process that were used to build our corporation!
What Audrey learned through the invention workshop will be applied to much more than inventions. She
learned to brainstorm (and loved that process), to research options, to see inventions as a solution to a
problem, to interview adults, and to work out the details of a concept. She also had the opportunity to
shine intellectually and creatively - together - giving a young woman who has been labeled 'artist' a
chance to show her amazing thinking capacity, as well.
I hope you will continue to offer and expand your workshop opportunity. I know that Audrey would have
loved working together with the other students, and you, to actually build prototype invention. Had time
allowed - or expenses been covered - I'm sure you would enjoy this as well! Thank you for all of your
planing, patience and most of all, enthusiasm. This was an excellent opportunity for Audrey and all the
other students in the class.
Sincerely,
Diane S.

Dear Mrs. Selle-Grider:
I liked the Invention Workshop. I liked that when we brainstormed we just threw out ideas even
if they were crazy. The SCAMPER was a good tool to help think about my invention in different
ways.
It was hard to get people to think of ideas really quickly. You had to wait awhile, but after they
thought about it they had good ideas. I think I'll try to make some of the inventions people
suggested.
Thank you for teaching us and bringing out our creativity!
Sincerely,
Audrey S., age 12

The Ohio Virtual Academy is an Ohio public school that strives to empower students and their
parents with an innovative and effective educational program that helps students achieve high
standards and reach their full academic and social potential. We accomplish this by delivering
an academically rich, web-based curriculum to our students in their homes and supporting the
educational needs with highly trained, licensed teachers.
One obstacle that OHVA faces in science education is providing opportunities for students who
are primarily taught in the home to interact with other students in hands on learning activities.
This past fall, an Invention Workshop was held in Delaware, Ohio which did just that: allowed
students to do real, hands on science.
The Invention Workshop provided true, hands on learning for our students through inquiry
based experiments. This truly is what science education should be about: coming up with new
ideas, experimenting with those ideas, and making changes and improvements to further the
idea. The opportunity to take these student's ideas and creations to the next level is exciting.
We are asking for your support as we strive to provide meaningful learning opportunities for
our students.
Sincerely,
Luke Burton

Our son has always been an inventive and creative child. His association with this organization
has taught him to focus on the activity at hand. We recommend this organization to any child
who would benefit from a broadened, intellectual horizon. Rita is especially adept at leading
children in their activities. The brainstorming exercises are a good experience for future jobs.

We were looking for an enrichment activity to homeschooling for our 4th grade daughter. In
the Young Bright Minds and Inventors Academy, we found a fun, unique and nurturing program.
Each child was encouraged to unlock their own creativity, and differences in ideas were built
upon and celebrated. There were several different paths to chose from, depending on each
child's age and interests. It was all we were looking for and more.

Hi Rita,
The ideas that the Young Bright Minds have come up with are excellent. Out of all the possibilities
they came up with, we have chosen to adopt idea #14, cards of memories for the family, for our
first project. You are doing great work and while you were meeting here we really enjoyed seeing
the kids enthusiasm and energy. Keep it up!
Thank you so much!
